about

Despite the origins, associated bands, and all around history surrounding the band members, Teenbeaters has an identity all its own.

So, yes, Teenbeaters was founded by singer/songwriters Zambia Greene (bass/vocals) and David Milone (guitar/vocals), and yes they were both members of the band OURS, the latter (Milone) having co-founded OURS with Jimmy Gnecco.  Zambia and David were originally rounded out by former/original OURS drummer Tony Angerson and Evan Slamka (guitars).

Soon the band signed publishing deals with both Polygram and Sony/ATV Music Publishing LLC and recorded a self-titled EP later followed by the "My World, My Sky" EP.  Both EP's were Produced and Mixed by John Agnello (Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr., etc.).

In time, both Evan Slamka and Tony Angerson left the band.

Evan Slamka would go on to found the band Marjorie Fair, sign a deal with Capitol Records, and release the critically-loved album "Self Help Serenade".

In search of a new second guitarist and drummer, Zambia and David recruited Sugarglider NYC guitarist Mod, who then brought in
Sugarglider NYC drummer Kevin McAdams to complete the lineup right before the release of the "My World, My Sky" EP, which eventually debuted at #2 on CMJ's Most Added Chart in August 2000.

The new lineup further expanded the sound and songwriting of the band by bringing in more varied beats/approaches, as well as some electronic elements.  Teenbeaters was reinvigorated and Zambia, Mod, Dave, and Kevin began producing new material at a prolific rate.  The more inventive and audacious the new songs became, the more aggressive and volatile were the live shows.

During this time, Zambia's musical talents were featured in the movie "Afropunk", which started the movement.

The vicious work ethic, yet hard living lifestyle of the band, created a productive yet manic environment.

Their relentless drive to perform had them sharing stages with an array of artists such as; The Strokes, The Walkmen, Superdrag, The World/Inferno Friendship Society, Weston, Starlight Mints, The Frogs, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Phaser, Stellastarr, Hopewell, Elf Power, The Sheila Divine, Orbit, Dragpipe, The Diablo Project, Tsing Tsing (Jesse Malin), Jeremiah Freed, and The Realistics.

At the start of 2001, Teenbeaters caught the attention of J. Mascis who invited the band to support J. Mascis and The Fog (featuring Mike Watt on bass) for the first leg of the "More Light" tour.

At the first American show of the tour, Teenbeaters kicked off an historic night of music at The Blind Pig (Ann Arbor, MI), where Ron Asheton joined J. Mascis and The Fog onstage to jam out some Stooges classics.  This show is cited as the spark that set The Stooges reunion into motion.  Track 15, "No One Knows (Live)" was the first song to propel this night forward.  Track 16, "Rid Of Me (Live)", a PJ Harvey classic,  was also taken from this show.

With this momentum, new tours were booked and Sony/ATV approved a new recording budget for the band.

At the same time, OURS was about to release "Distorted Lullabies", and with the promise of major label support, Jimmy Gnecco persuaded Dave Milone to rejoin the band on guitar.  This led to the departure of Dave from Teenbeaters, while Zambia, Mod, and Kevin morphed into Killaholics.

A few weeks later Kevin received a call from former Circus singer/songwriter Diego Garcia, who was looking to make a demo, and convinced Kevin to record drums/percussion.  Since Diego also needed a guitarist, Kevin brought in Mod.  And so began, Elefant.

Years later, following the release/tours for "Precious", which included OURS' version of "In A Minute", Dave left OURS and joined Radio 4.  Zambia would rejoin OURS (playing drums) for some tours during 2006.  Zambia and Kevin would then form The Watchmakers and record an album (with Mod producing) and Dave would get Mod to join Radio 4.  Dave and Mod would also play together in Apefight, with contributions from both Zambia and Kevin.  Zambia (with friend Rey) would create the music/comic book project Run By The Gun featuring work from Kevin (drums) and Mod (production). Kevin would then play drums for Dave's own band, Dai Milone, with members of Longwave, Robbers on High Street, and Boy Morgan.

What's the point of this madness?  While they have not performed together as Teenbeaters since 2001, Zambia, Dave, Mod, and Kevin still have an unbreakable chemistry and energy that carries forward to the present day.

The world of the Teenbeaters is a multi-dimensional place where hostility, beauty, hysteria, absurdity, hilarity, and tragedy combine to capture the moment, or the feeling of an archetypal situation.  The band:  Mod, Zambia Greene, David Milone, and Kevin McAdams
